Top 5 Best Moments from Doctor Who Series 7

"Yowza!"

That's what every Whovian must have blurted out as they watched the seventh season of Doctor Who come to a close, and for good reason: it's not really over, the battle has only begun!

Hot on the heels of Doctor Who's 50th anniversary, Series 7 was, for all intents and purposes, a love letter to the Doctor Who mythos. As a relatively new Whovian, it was awesome to see all the fun moments and little callbacks to the Doctor's storied history, starting from the Doctor's trip to the Dalek asylum to the final moments of The Name of the Doctor!

So what were the top five best moments of Doctor Who Series 7? I rank them now so you won't have to!

5. The Doctor meets Clara for the 2nd (!) time

In the Doctor Who Christmas special titled The Snowmen, the Doctor has given up his life of adventure...that is, until he meets Clara, a spunky barmaid-slash-governess with enough wit and sass to give even the Doctor a run for his money! Watching her run flirty circles around the flustered Doctor was a hoot to watch, and meeting her sparked his sense of wonder, and seeing the Doctor be his old whimsical self again was awesome. As an added bonus, if you watched Season 7 since the first episode, then you know Clara's a bigger mystery than even the Doctor realizes, and you can't help but get excited for the fallout!

4. The Doctor snaps!

Apparently, even age-old Time Lords can only have so much patience before it all goes to hell. In the episode A Town Called Mercy, the Doctor is horrified to learn that the town doctor Kahler-Jex, who is actually an alien on the run from his past, is responsible for turning his fellow Kahler into killer cyborgs against their will! In a startling display of rage, the Doctor drags Jex to the edge of town and leaves him at the mercy of one of his cyborg creations, going so far as to point a gun at Jex's head to prevent him from escaping his fate. "Today, I honor the victims first: his, the Master's, the Daleks', all the people who died because of MY mercy!"

Eventually he comes back to his senses, but during those precious moments we're reminded that a Time Lord is not to be trifled with.

3. Goodbye, Ponds

Come on, who didn't tear up during this moment? Angels Take Manhattan had its timey-wimey problems, most of it the size of Manhattan itself, but the real clincher here is the tearful departure of the Doctor's pre-erstwhile companions. Rory and Amy's love literally stood the test of time, and they give the penultimate proof of it in this episode, making the ultimate sacrifice to save the world from Weeping Angels.

2. "Take it all, baby! You have it all!"

Seeing the Doctor's child-like sense of wonder, we sometimes forget that he's lived a hell of a long life. So when faced with a parasitic 'god' who feeds on memories in The Rings of Akhaten, the Doctor knew just the way to beat it: by offering himself as the buffet of a lifetime. What better way to gorge a memory leech than with a thousand-year-old Time Lord who has quite literally seen it all? "I saw the birth of the universe, and I watched as time ran out, moment by moment until nothing remained," boasted the Doctor, in a speech so moving it brought him to tears, as it did me!

1. The Name of the Doctor (the whole episode!)

Man, this episode. Season 7's finale was filled to the gills with awesome moments that to enumerate them all is as impossible as Clara! We finally see Trenzalore, say goodbye to River Song, and discover the secret of Clara Oswald and her many incarnations. But not only that, showrunner Steven Moffat throws the Whovians a bone with cameos of every iteration of the Doctor, running around like giddy Easter eggs, just in time for Doctor Who's 50th anniversary in November! If you could power a small country using the fangasmic spazzing of every Doctor Who fan who saw this episode, then it's a moment worth crowning!
