The Nanmu Studio Eternal Empress of Origins is lovingly sculpted, with so many details packed into a figure this size. From the menacing eyebrow ridges to her bird-like feet, from the muscular hind legs to its slender tail, Nanmu Studio spared no expense to give us a T. rex figure you just love to look at.
If there's one thing I don't like, it's that Nanmu Studio sculpted Rexy to be on the slimmer side. I ain't one to body shame, but something about a majestic creature like the T. rex being shrink-wrapped and emaciated doesn't sit right with me.
Nanmu Studio Eternal Empress of Origins is a compact beast, smaller compared to Mattel's Jurassic World Lab Lockdown Tyrannosaurus Rex, but no less imposing. And despite her size, this Nanmu Studio T. rex figure is surprisingly hefty AF; a lot of plastic was used to bring this queen to life!
Shoutout to Nanmu Studio for bringing their painting A-game to Alpha 3.0 Eternal Empress of Origins. The paintwork is superb—subtle shadings and washes bring out the scales and leathery skin, while dark paint sharply highlights when needed, like how it brings out Rexy's brilliant gold eyes.
Open up Rexy's maw and you're greeted by even more impressive paint work inside her mouth. Glossy paint is used to incredible effect, adding even more realism to the Eternal Empress of Origins figure. Check out that gnarly, realistic-looking soft palate and uvula!
I'm most excited about the articulation, as I don't have much in the way of fully poseable dinosaurs in my collection. The Nanmu Studio Eternal Empress of Origins Tyrannosaurus Rex features 25 points of articulation in every place that matters with minimal breaking of the sculpt. Her head rests on a ball-jointed neck system with surprising range, while the powerful legs can be bent and shaped in natural poses, helped immensely by an ankle pivot and toe hinges. The arms have elbows, and the tail is poseable in very natural ways. And as seen in earlier pics, her jaw can be opened wide so you can pose her letting out an almighty roar!
It can be sort of a mixed bag, though. My copy's joints run the gamut of quality, from tight leg joints that I can barely move without sweating, to loose ankles that can't support the figure's weight. I'm probably gonna need a stand for this.
Speaking of, parts of a transparent plastic figure stand is included, which you have to assemble with no instructions or tools (there's none, I checked). But once assembled, the stand is awkward to use and doesn't offer much support (and the microscopic screws aren't helping). As much as I would love to get Eternal Empress of Origin in a dynamic pose without toppling over, I'd rather get her in a museum pose just so I don't have to use this stand.
But my nitpicks don't take away from the awesomeness of this figure. Nanmu Studio has outdone itself with its Alpha 3.0 Eternal Empress of Origins Tyrannosaurus Rex. It's beautifully sculpted, incredibly detailed and painted, and articulated as only the tyrant king—or queen—deserves. Now I can re-enact my favorite childhood movie on my desk anytime I want!
The Nanmu Studio Alpha 3.0 Eternal Empress of Origins set me back around 80 USD, and I'm surprised to get a quality figure in exchange. But please, no more crown jewels of T. rex figures anytime soon, universe. My wallet hates me enough as it is!
